The Perfect Post Workout Smoothie

 After my morning workout and before I get started with my work day, I’m usually trying to get as many nutrients in as quick as possible. I always lean towards this smoothie because it’s just so easy to put together, I usually always have all the ingredients on hand, it checks all my boxes for what I want my first meal of the day to look like, and it fuels my body for the next 3-4 hours while I get some work done. 

I like my smoothie to be low in sugar, high in fat, fiber and superfoods, and packed with greens. Smoothies are an easy way to pack in loads of nutrients in 1 small mason jar. If you include the right macro and micronutrients in your smoothie you will avoid blood sugar dips, mid day cravings, and that extra cup of coffee to keep your energy levels up.

To make this nutrient dense smoothie, I like to start off by adding a large handful of organic baby spinach. I make sure my spinach is organic because conventional spinach ranks # 2 on the dirty dozen list according to the Environmental Working Group. Conventional spinach ranked relatively high for permethrin, a neurotoxic insecticide. To avoid this I make sure to get choose organic. 

Next I add 1/2 cup of frozen organic blueberries. I also go with organic here to decrease my expose to pesticides since I will be drinking this smoothie straight out of the blender. I love blueberries because they are PACKED with antioxidants! Antioxidants protect our bodies from free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can damage our cells and contribute to aging and disease. They are also low in sugar and won’t spike my blood sugar levels like other fruits do. 

2 scoops of my favorite collagen goes in next. You guys already know how much I love collagen but just incase you didn’t know; I pretty much use collagen on a daily basis and it’s helped with the health of my hair, skin, and nails as well as my digestion. It also adds a little boost of protein to my smoothie which I love. 

I add 1 tablespoon of Navitas organic cacao powder next. Adding cacao to my daily smoothies has helped me in so many ways it’s insane! I noticed a huge decrease in PMS symptoms especially around the time of my period, as well as a boost in overall mood and feelings of well being. Iv always known that cacao was a superfood and that its really good for the body, but until I started noticing the huge improvements did I really understand its value. If you’re someone who struggles with PMS, depression, constantly feeling down and don’t know why, low libido and anxiety, I would highly recommend adding organic cacao powder to your daily diet. 

I like to add a little cinnamon to complement the cacao flavor and for its anti inflammatory properties. 

1 tablespoon of creamy organic almond butter goes in next because nut butters are my favorite thing in the world. Almond butter is full of healthy fats that will keep you satiated longer and it adds a nice creaminess to the smoothie. 
 
Next I add 1 tablespoon of flax seeds for a good source of healthy omega-3s, fiber, and loads of other vitamins and minerals that your body will thank you for. 

Lastly, I add about 1/2-1 cup unsweetened almond milk to blend it all up. I usually always have Califia Farms almond milk in my fridge and it gives the smoothie a nice flavor and consistency. Iv tried using water and its just not the same, so stick to any non dairy unsweetened milk you like for this recipe.

After blending, I like to top my smoothie with some fresh berries and pumpkin seeds for a nice crunch and there you have it guys, the easiest superfood smoothie that will keep your mind sharp and body fueled. I hope you guys try this one out and enjoy it as much as I do!

Ingredients

  • Handful organic spinach
  • 1/2 cup organic frozen blueberries
  • 2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
  • 1 tablespoon organic cacao
  • Dash of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon organic smooth almond butter
  • 1 tablespoon flax seeds
  • 1/2-1 cup unsweetened almond milk (depending on how thick you like your smoothie)

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a high speed blender and blend for about 30 seconds or until smooth. Enjoy!
